EST. 1906
A Century and a Score: The Origin
In 1906, under the sprawling, protective canopy of the Oseno tree, a vision for Kenyan education was born. It was here that Rev. J.J. Willis, alongside missionaries Hugh and Helen Savile, forged a transformational partnership with Local Chief Ogola Ayieke. What began as an experimental vocational center for the sons of African chiefs quickly evolved, fuelled by a collective hunger for light and learning. This sacred ground, where the school now takes its name from the Oseno tree itself, remains the beating pulse of our heritage, symbolizing the deep roots of faith and character that have sustained us for twelve decades.
A Renaissance of Mind: The 1910 Shift
By 1910, Maseno School experienced a student-led renaissance that would redefine its destiny. Challenging the colonial focus on manual labor, the students demanded a rigorous academic curriculum that could match the highest standards of the age. This shift from head, heart, and hand vocational training to intellectual excellence sparked an era of academic dominance. Through the missionary years, the courageous transition of Africanisation, and into our modern era led by Chief Principal Peter Owino, the school has remained an island of stability famously recording 120 years without a single strike, a testament to the discipline and mutual respect that flow through our gates.
Today, Maseno’s impact spans the globe through the distinguished alumni of the Maseno Old Boys Association (MOBA). From the historic Chapel to the quiet wisdom of the Oseno tree, our campus is a living museum of excellence. As we celebrate this 120th milestone, we honor the past and embrace a present-day renaissance of growth and renewal. We warmly invite you to join our global community in these festivities and witness the next chapter of this extraordinary story.
